Gurudongmar Lake is at the height of 17,000 ft and is one of the highest lakes in the world. A small Gurudwara is made and maintained by army near the lake. Due to the extremely inhospitable terrain and the difficulties, access is strictly controlled at the Army checkpost. Due to the altitude, there is a scarcity of oxygen. Visitors are advised to carry medicines and to descend quickly in case of acute or persistent discomfort.
